Chapter 22 Electrical
This is the chapter that marks the
beginning of the end in the long building process that has taken me now over 6
years. I can’t believe it has been this
long. Many have commented saying they
could not do a project like this that required a long term commitment. I think you have to enjoy what you are doing. I do enjoy working on the project after a
long day at work. It gives you time to
think about things and gives me a real sense of accomplishment. There are two things I just can’t comprehend
about building these planes though, one is, how do some builders complete these
things in as little as 18 months?! Second, how did Nat Puffer build 4 of these things?…..and
I don’t think he started the first one until he was in his 50’s!
There is a great quote making the
rounds in the aircraft building arena on how these planes get completed…..
It's never skill or craftsmanship that completes
airplanes, it's the will to do so,
Patrick Kenny, EAA 275132
I guess that pretty much sums it up!
Well, I’m just starting this chapter and don’t have much to
report, but I will wet your appetite with a teaser photo of the panel….

Yup, I broke the bank with a 2 screen Grand Rapids EFIS
system. Other goodies include a Trutrak digital autopilot with horizontal and vertical GPS
steering. Full coupled ILS approaches
are accomplished by running the SL30 nav signals
through the EFIS to the autopilot. A Garmin 327X transponder, PS Engineering PMA8000b audio
panel, and Garmin 496 GPS round out the panel. Thank God for low interest home equity
loans! Now I just need to get it
installed and wired up…..
