Chapter 5    Fuselage sides                                                                Next     Previous     Home

In this chapter the fuselage sides are formed.
Step 1 is to form the upper longerons in jigs as seen here:

Step 2: Build the jigs for the sides.
These have a compound curve built into them.

Step 3: PVC foam is placed into the
jigs, and then Urethane foam spacers
are built and placed to form corners
and other features.
The circular
depressions
are for clearance to the
control stick. I‘m waiting to see if
they were really nessesary.
Here you can see the cut outs for
the Fuel gauges and electrical
conduit.

Next the inside walls are glassed,  then the
formed longerons are floxed in place,
additional plys of glass are laid over the longerons.

Note the little wooden blocks to hold the angled surface.

Trimming the ends:

LWY & LWX:Placement of these parts
always results in a few questions,  I will
add a comment or 2 on this when I write
   chapter 14.
