Data Format

The data downloaded from this application is in the OpenAir™ format. This is a text format that can be uploaded to your vario using FlyChart (available here or here). You must use FlyChart version 4.52.28 or higher. Version 4.52.24 (and possibly earlier) has a bug that resets the center of all circle airspaces to 0°N by 0°E so they don't appear properly on the vario map.

Definitions

You can download a PDF document from Flytec that describes the use of this data in greater detail including instructions for uploading the data to your vario via FlyChart.
CTR
A restricted airspace definition. A CTR has a name, airspace class, ceiling, floor, and one or more segments. A typical restricted area can be made up of one or more CTRs.
Element
A CTR is made up of one or more elements. An element is a line, arc, or circle.

Limits

The amount of data that can be uploaded to a vario depends on several factors. First off, each vario has a limit on the total number of CTRs that can be uploaded. Then the vario has a limit on the total number of segments that may be included in the CTRs. The limit is an average of 13 elements per CTR.

What this means is that if your vario has a limit of 20 CTRs is also has a limit of 260 total elements. Some CTRs have only one element while others may have dozens or more. If either limit is exceeded then not all of the data will be uploaded to your vario. FlyChart only shows you how many CTRs you are trying to upload. If you use FlyChart to upload your data and you are under the CTR limit but over the element limit then FlyChart will not indicate any error but your vario will only have a subset of the data you expected to upload.

This application shows both the number of CTRs and elements in your current selection so you can be sure the data will fit in your vario. Here's a simple table showing the maximum number of elements you can upload depending on the number of CTRs you can upload:

CTRs Elements
1 13
20 260
150 1950
300 3900

Vario Makes and Models

The data downloaded via this application is known to work with the following variometers:

Flytec 6030 / Bräuniger IQ Compeo+

Out of the box these varios can store up to 20 CTRs in memory. For an extra fee they can be expanded to store up to 300.

Flytec 6020 / Bräuniger IQ Competino+

Out of the box these varios can store up to 20 CTRs in memory. For an extra fee they can be expanded to store up to 150.

Flytec 5030 / Bräuniger IQ Compeo

Out of the box these varios can store one CTR in memory. For an extra fee they can be expanded to store up to 20 or 300. These limits depend on whether the vario has extended memory or not and the software version installed.
