Is there a way to create a database of my own barcodes? barcodes that I created and printed off from a free barcode generator site. (they are UPC E format) I am moving and I want to put bar code labels on each box. I'd love to be able to simply scan a barcode and know what is in the box. Can I even do that with MyStuff?

Thank you!

MyStuff2 can be setup to handle what you need but not exactly as you describe. MyStuff2 doesn't support associating a barcode with a location. What you can do is add an attribute of type Barcode to your categories. Then as you add each item and place it in a box you can scan the box's barcode for that item's barcode value.

Later, when you want to see what is in a box you can bring up the list of items for All Categories to see all of your items. Tap on the search field at the top. Now tap on the Barcode scope button under the search field. Notice now the icon in the search field changes to a little barcode symbol. Tap that icon and then scan the barcode on the box. This will now show all items in the search results that have the same barcode.

I like the idea of adding a barcode to a Location in MyStuff2. This would make things a little easier. I will add this idea to my TODO list.

Let me know if the above makes sense and whether it works for you or not.

I too love the idea of barcoding locations, as well as creating my own barcodes for certain items, it's a great way to be reminded which box (Location) the item was taken out of.

How about QR Codes as well as Barcodes?
It would be great if MyStuff, offered to print the QR codes or Barcodes as well.

Then you could just hold up your iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad to the Barcode/QR Code on the box/location and see it's contents.

I can dream can't I?

Just be glad I didn't suggest MyStuff should navigate me to the location.

I imagine there are apps that can generate and print QR codes or maybe other barcodes. MyStuff2 can read QR codes. If you can find another app to create them you could put them on the boxes then use MyStuff2 to read them.

Associating barcodes with locations is on my TODO list for MyStuff2.

My iPhone4 will read Barcodes, but does not read the QR Code I printed.

I used QR Code Generator
Free Formatted Text

And the test I encoded was: AJ001

I'll email you the jpg image I printed out at about 4in x 4in

Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?

This issue was resolved via email. Just to inform anyone reading this thread the issue was due to attempting to scan a QR code while adding a new item. QR codes are not supported in this mode since Amazon requires a product barcode, not the arbitrary string associated with a QR code.
