I tried to stop the send when I realized the attachments were 11Mb, hope your mail server can handle that, was going to shrink the zip a bit more)
One thing to note on this one; I do not have 3G on this iPad so I use WiFi, as I was in my shop I had 1 bar on my WiFi during this issue. I just tried it again from my Kitechen floor having full WiFi and it did it again.
I have never seen this issue with any other scan.
