Hi. I have an iPhone 3G running 2.0.1 firmware, and all of my apps are working fine. I am able to connect to my wi-fi network, Apple's own "Remote" app works just fine, I am very familiar with all the ins-and-outs of networking and have used many apps to connect to my Series 3 TiVo just fine, too.

Unfortunately, this app doesn't work.

I type in my TiVo's name (Series3 DVR 7519)
I type in the TiVo's network address (10.0.1.134)
I type in my Media Access Key.

No matter what, though, this app doesn't connect, it get says "Update Failed: Unable to connect to DVR"

I've tried these settings (removing and re-adding) 3 times now. I've tried different names for my TiVo, too. But I have confirmed and double-confimed the network address and Media Access Key, all to no avail.

Is this app compatible with Series 3 TiVo's? If so, what am I doing wrong?

For what it's worth, the TiVoRemote program I am using (http://code.google.com/p/tivoremote/ ) connects fine and I am able to use it to remotely control my TiVo.

Please help.

I did all of my development using my Series 3 so I know it works in general. Try entering the following URL in your browser (both on a computer and your iPhone):

https://your.ip.address/TiVoConnect?Com ... yContainer

You will get prompted for a username and password. The username is 'tivo' and the password is your MAK.

Your browser may also complain due to the self-signed SSL certificate being used by your TiVo.

Whatever value you end up using for "your.ip.address" is what needs to be entered into the DVR Shows program. One other thing, the DVR Shows program will timeout after 20 seconds if it is unable to connect to your TiVo. Please verify that the above URL responds in less than 20 seconds.

Let me know what results you get.

Thanks,
Rick

I'm having the same problem; have entered the IP address and MAK displayed in my TIVO settings several times and am still unable to connect. (BTW, it would be nice if your program allowed users to edit their settings.) That URL you suggested we enter also times out.

Has anybody but the developer ever managed to get this program to work?

Out of over a thousand users I have gotten reports, including yours, from less than 4 that couldn't get it to work. Since you stated that using the URL

https://your.ip.address/TiVoConnect?Com ... yContainer

didn't work for you either, this proves it is not a problem the with the "DVR Shows" application.

Let's try to find out what's going on.

1) What model TiVo do you have?
2) Is it connected to a local network in your house?
3) Is the computer you used to try the above URL on the same network?
4) Is your iPhone or iPod Touch on the same network using WiFi?

Assuming 1) is a proper TiVo DVR and not some other brand, and assuming 2) and 3) are Yes, then you might have an issue with firewall settings that prevents your computer from connecting to your TiVo. If you can't access that URL from your computer then you won't ever be able to get "DVR Shows" to work. Please let me know the answers to these questions.

Thanks,
Rick

These are the results I get when I follow those instructions:

Quote:
x-tivo-container/tivo-serverx-tivo-container/tivo-dvrSeries3 DVR 7519101x-tivo-container/tivo-videosx-tivo-container/tivo-dvrSeries3 DVR 7519Series3 DVR 7519https://10.0.1.134:443/TiVoConnect?Command=QueryContainer&Container=%2FNowPlayingx-tivo-container/tivo-videos

I am still unable to connect to my TiVo using "DVRShows" however.

I will note that I can connect to my TiVo using the Mac app iTiVo. It shows me a list of all my shows, and from there I can download them. I have upgraded to a 750 GB drive, and this program notes that I have 263 items recorded. Might that be an issue, if that list is unusually long? If so, it shouldn't be, as TiVo is now shipping the HD XL model with a 1 TB drive inside...

Can you confirm that your iPhone is connected to the same network (10.0.1.*) using WiFi?

Can you confirm that when you accessed the TiVoConnect URL from your computer that you got results back in less than 20 seconds?

Have you tried entering the TiVoConnect URL into Mobile Safari on your iPhone? If that works then I'm at a loss as to why DVR Shows doesn't connect. If it doesn't work then something is preventing your iPhone from seeing or connecting to the TiVo.

Yes, I just tested it, and was able to connect with MobileSafari to the same TiVoConnect URL.

Might it have something to do with my lengthy list of recordings?

Strange new development!

Just as a test, I tried adding another entry for my TiVo into DVRShows. Clicked the "plus" sign, typed in the details, and this time I entered "http://10.0.1.134" for the DVR Network Address. It quickly errored out, of course, and didn't work. So I clicked "edit" and removed that entry.

Then, I went back to the original entry... and this time, it worked! It's displaying my list of shows.

For the record, this is the very first time it has worked in all of my testing... and I've been trying since the day I started this thread. I didn't edit the original entry. I simply added another (wrong) one, and then removed it.
