First I tried using "Data Transfer" and then "Transfer from other My Stuff". It appeared to open the original program, appeared to be processing, and then it switched back to MyStuff2 and appeared to be importing, then it crashed and nothing was moved.

More Hints:
Also, tried this.
I tried to backup MyStuff and restore to MyStuff2, but got an error message that said "The file"MyStuffBackup(1).msa" is not a valid backup file.

Then I tried to export one of my smallest categories and for the one category it worked, but it would not bring the pictures and that is a problem for me because, all my records have one to several pictures.

The "Transfer from other My Stuff" is the most appealing method, but it does not work.

Thanks in advance.

I thought you might want to know what hardware/software.

I am currently using the iOS 5.0.1 on an iPhone 4S, MyStuff2 v1.3.2 (the destination).

The iPhone I was using is an iPhone 3g running OS 3.1.3, MyStuff v4.3.7 (the source).

If the data from the older My Stuff is too large (due to images) then the normally easy 'Transfer from other My Stuff' method will fail.

When that doesn't work the remaining option is to run the older My Stuff, go to Tools, Data Transfer, then Backup Data and save the MyStuffBackup.msa file to your computer.

Then you run the newer MyStuff2, go to Tools, Data Transfer, select an appropriate Data Transfer Method, and then choose Restore Data.

If MyStuff2 states that the MyStuffBackup.msa file is not a valid backup file then it is possible the file wasn't saved properly from the older My Stuff.

Try doing the backup again from My Stuff. If it still won't load into MyStuff2 please let me know. I would suggest mailing the backup file to me so I can verify whether it is a valid backup file or not.

In spite of the fact that I had made 2 attempts, each with a different backup... but when I tried it a third time after you suggested it, it worked!

Thanks, I am looking forward to using the new program and it's new features. I might add that you are quite quick to respond and it is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

I'm having a similar but not quite the same problem. I've been trying to do use the Backup Data function to pull over my old database in MyStuff to the new MyStuff2 app. However, I haven't been able to get the backup link to work, so I haven't been able to download my backup file. It IS a rather large database - I have nearly 1800 books entered with pictures for each one. I've tried connecting to other networks thinking my connection might just be pooching out on me before the link can completely connect for the download, but that hasn't solved the problem. I've tried it more than once with different url extensions (the five digits after the colon), so I'm not typing the url wrong. I was able to run the Export function with no trouble, but of course that doesn't bring over all my pictures.

I'm SUPER EXCITED about getting the new version! That barcode scanner is going to save me SO MUCH TIME!!! Anything you can tell me to help me figure out how to pull over my old database would be greatly appreciated. I LOVE your app - it's one of the ones I use the most - almost daily. I don't often buy apps, but yours is just so very useful to me that it has been well worth the cost. Thanks so much for creating it!

(Oh, I have an iPhone 4 running iOS 5.0.1)

The older My Stuff has issues performing the various data transfer functions on a device running iOS 5. Please see this other thread in this support forum for a simple resolution:

viewtopic.php?f=33&t=553

This should allow you to perform a backup from My Stuff which will then let you restore that data into MyStuff2.

Let me know if you need any further assistance.

Enjoy.

Thanks for the help! Got it all migrated, and now I'm having fun learning how to get all the new features to work for me in harmony with all the customizations I had set up in the old version. :D

Question about the migration: I had one Yes/No attribute and one Group that, from what I can tell, the items marked "yes" and the items in the group didn't come over in the migration. There were only 4 items in the Yes/No attribute, so it was simple to add them back. However, I had almost 100 items in the Group. What I can't figure out is on the "Categories" screen, well, see below:

The numbers next to Books make it look like the group is still there. But I can't figure out how to make them show up, or if they're gone and the numbers don't mean what I think they do. Before I went thru and re-entered them, I thought I'd come ask. Thanks!

Tap the little triangle next to Books.

Also, if you tap on Books to view the list of items, you can change whether items assigned to groups appear or not. Tapping the second icon in the toolbar at the bottom toggles whether items from groups are shown or not.
