I have several attributes that do not fit into the "Yes/No" categorization and instead, would probably work better with a Check Mark. Would it be possible to have the option to present a boolean attribute as either a "Yes/No" selection or a checkmark that would be present or absent?

Also, if the checkmark was introduced, would it be possible to have it presented in the list view and be selectable? It would be great to be able to change the checkmark in the list view.

Regards
Robert

Can you give me an idea of how you would use such a feature? Other than the possibility of showing a checkmark in the item list, I can't think of anything that such a feature would give you that can't be done with the Yes/No attribute. Do you envision a category being able to have more than one "checkbox" attribute or just one that would only appear in the item list?

Keep in mind I need to consider how such a feature would be handled when generating reports, viewing summary information, exporting and importing data, filtering, sorting, etc.

You are correct, everything that I need to display could be covered by a Yes/No field. I suppose what I was asking for was two fold.

1. As you have in the list view if you select to edit items, could we have the option of displaying any Yes/No fields as a checkmark (either an empty circle or a tick mark), I think that this is visually (at least for me), easier to relate to than a Yes/No set of buttons. This would be in the detailed record view and could be selected on an attribute by attribute basis.

2. In the list view, if a Yes/No attribute was selected for display, again, could the list view show the blank circle or the check mark instead of the Yes/No text?

I agree that trying to allow updating the checkmark in the list screen would be complex, please ignore that request. More interested in the presentation of the attribute.

Thanks for the feedback. I will consider your ideas.

One other thing to consider. A Yes/No attribute actually has three states: Yes, No, or no choice. If the checkmark on the item list is simply a display then I could show a checkmark, an empty circle, or nothing at all to match the three possible states. But I can guarantee that if there is the option to show the checkmark on the item list then people will want the ability to toggle the checkmark right on the item list screen. And this needs to handle all three states.

Very good points, I had not thought about the "no choice". As you say, worth considering for the future, but not an issue for me at the moment.

FWIW I would _love_ to have a stricter boolean type made possible with a check-mark which may only default to true/false (as opposed to the three-valued logic of Yes/No/null).

Also, in my ideal universe the check-mark would explicitly dump to CSV as either T or NIL

Thanks In Advance!

I'm registered in the forum just to agree with this. I deal with database on my day to day job (simple access though) and I really could use a checkbox. I understand the Boolean value and the null value, and I really need a Boolean value in the form of a checkbox.

While yes,no,null have it value, I think the color coding, IMHO, is bad and hard to notice. Maybe I like blue or darker color thn yellow.

PS: I like your app better than Bento at the moment. but I only tried both less than a day. But overall, I like your app better. Being able to put more than one value one the same line is good.

I'm glad you like MyStuff2. There are a lot of features that you probably won't notice right away. Keep playing. :)

Just yesterday I greatly enhanced the Yes/No attribute functionality for the next big release. The attribute is being renamed from Yes/No to Toggle. You will be able to select from several pairs of values (Yes/No, On/Off, Thumbs up/down Emoji characters, etc.). This also includes checkbox type symbols.

I've also added a choice of two presentations. The current, two side-by-side approach, and a new method where a single button is used showing only the currently selected value. Tapping the button cycles through the two "real" values and the one "null" value.

BTW - to all of you who don't care for the current color coding please note that it is basically the same as any standard segmented control used in any iOS app. The darker segment is the selected segment. In MyStuff2 look at the one at the bottom of the Categories screen where you select Categories, Locations, or Actions. Same colors (though no colored text). I think the issue is with three or more segments it's much more obvious which is different than when there are only two segments. But the new option avoids any ambiguity.
