the CMYK values when opening the swatch in illustrator CS4 (mac) are wildly different from the values on the
ipod touch and in the email details that come with the exported file
the values are not just off a few points but so far off as to make them unusable
anyone else know of this?

This is the first anyone has mentioned this issue. I'll take a look. Can you do me a favor since I don't have access to Illustrator. Can you create a palette in Illustrator with the same colors you used in Palettes and send me both exported files so I can compare what is generated by Illustrator against what is generated by Palettes.

You can email the two files to me at:

Thanks,
Rick

I forgot to ask one question. Are the colors themselves correct? Is it just the listed CMYK values that are different but the color is OK? What about the RGB values? Palettes uses a very simplistic formula to convert RBG values to CMYK. I'm sure Illustrator uses a more complex formula.
